How we handle information when you visit HomeSmartOffice.
Last updated: September 9, 2026
Who we are
HomeSmartOffice is a registered trade name of van Houten E-Commerce. van Houten E-Commerce, acting under that trade name, is the controller of personal data processed through this website.
Dutch Chamber of Commerce (KVK) number: 77953037. Established in the Netherlands. For privacy requests, email privacy@homesmartoffice.com.
What this website does
HomeSmartOffice publishes independent editorial guides about smart homes and home offices. We do not currently sell products to visitors. There are no user accounts and no newsletter. Some articles include affiliate links. If you buy from an external retailer through one of those links, we may receive a commission.
What information we process
Depending on how you use the site, we may process:
- Information you send us by email, such as your name, email address, and message.
- Limited technical and security data needed to host the website and keep it running safely.
- Your Cookiebot consent choices.
- After you accept Statistics cookies: limited Google Analytics 4 usage data, including pages you visit, the referring website, device type, and a coarse, approximate location.
- Affiliate outbound clicks and table-of-contents clicks, sent to GA4 only after Statistics consent.
Why we process it
We use this information for the following purposes and legal bases:
- Answering contact requests — so we can reply, and because we have a legitimate interest in running the site.
- Security and a reliable website — legitimate interest.
- Strictly necessary consent cookies — needed for the consent banner and basic site operation.
- GA4 and statistics — your consent.
- Legal administration, if it applies — a legal obligation.
Cookies, Cookiebot, and consent
We use Cookiebot by Usercentrics to show a consent banner and to classify cookies. Cookiebot is loaded only on homesmartoffice.com and www.homesmartoffice.com. Preview and local environments do not load the banner.
The current implementation uses two practical categories:
- Necessary cookies — required for the consent banner itself and basic site operation. These do not require analytics consent.
- Statistics cookies — used only if you accept statistics. They enable Google Analytics 4.
Advertising, ad personalization, and user-data consent stay denied. You can change or withdraw your consent at any time by using Cookie settings in the footer or on this page. You can also control cookies in your browser settings.
Google Analytics 4
If you accept Statistics cookies, we load Google Analytics 4 (GA4) and send pageviews, affiliate outbound clicks, and table-of-contents clicks. Until that consent is given, GA4 does not load. If you later withdraw consent, we stop sending further analytics events.
We do not use analytics to identify you as a named person. HomeSmartOffice does not sell personal data.
Who else may receive information
- Vercel hosts the website.
- Sanity stores and publishes the editorial content.
- Usercentrics (Cookiebot) manages the consent banner and records your cookie choices.
- Google receives GA4 data only after you accept Statistics cookies.
- Our email provider receives messages you send to us. We have not named a specific provider here because that can change.
- External retailers process information under their own policies if you open an affiliate link.
International processing
Some of these providers may process personal data outside the European Economic Area. Where such transfers take place and the law requires it, an appropriate transfer mechanism and suitable safeguards must apply — for example an adequacy decision or the EU Standard Contractual Clauses. Email privacy@homesmartoffice.com if you would like more information about the relevant safeguards.
How long we keep information
- Contact correspondence: up to two years after we have handled your request, unless we need to keep it longer because of a legal obligation or a dispute.
- GA4 event data: according to the retention setting of our GA4 property, and no longer than needed for website analytics. Aggregated standard reports may remain available for longer.
- Necessary consent and security data: no longer than needed for those purposes, or according to the relevant provider settings.
Your rights
Where they apply, you can ask us for access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, and data portability. You can withdraw consent at any time. That does not affect processing that was lawful before you withdrew it.
The fastest way to change or withdraw cookie consent is Cookie settings in the footer or on this page.
For other privacy requests, email privacy@homesmartoffice.com. You can also lodge a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
Automated decisions
HomeSmartOffice does not make solely automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about you.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we update the date at the top of this page. For a material change, we may also add a short notice on the site.
